You like pancake with stuffing? I love it.

It is a basic staple food in China, but in Singapore we tend to pay a premium for it. This stall (#01-72) we are visiting at Blk 90, Whampoa Food Centre serves an economical one. Only a dollar fifty for a palm-sized piece. And they were fattened up with stuffing!

Now we love to dip them into the vinegary sauce, complete with sliced ginger. Yum.

Beautiful, isn't it. The 24K gold flakes swirls around like the galaxy, promising to work wonders with its added Korean red Ginseng.

Endorsed by Korean actor, Kim Soo Hyun, the fine gel spread thinly and easily on the skin. My tired face immediately felt moistened, pumped and tightened - just like what a good face mask does, but without the mess of liquid essence dripping around the neck. Lying back, i relax and enjoy the sensation as i scripted this review in my mind.

After a good 3 hours, the skin still felt pumped and tight. Night wash my face before bed, and no sticky residues were found. By the morning, the skin still felt much hydrated. Much as i was looking forward to applying the gel again, the effects of the gel was less prominent on the following night - I could well explain it with my already 'well fed' skin from the very first application.

Steamed Fish Tail with Fermented Black Beans

Late lunch. And I was having one of my pangs - I just want plain porridge. So Ric drove around a few of our popular places, but they were all closed. Happy as a lark when Teck Ee, on Joo Chiat Rd came in sight! They are right next to the popular Dunman Hawker Centre actually.

The choice of dishes is aplenty here! And scrumptious. This is surely one of the better Teochew porridge stalls around. Now we have another on the list to go.

Fried Egg with Preserved Radish, Celery with Pig's Skin, Teochew Fishcake, Bitter gourd with Egg. 2 x plain porridge. ($13.50)

The stall reminds you fondly of your grandmother, because the elderly hawker cooks slow and steadily by herself, attending to customers warmly. Just like how grandma likes to dominate the kitchen, pampering us with food. Chat with her, and you find her speaking a few dialects, including Mandarin!

It was a quiet stall (#01-130) by the end of Telok Blangah Crescent Market and Food Centre. But her steam of customers is constant, buying out every tray of freshly steamed handmade kueh. If you need more to pack away (which we did), you need to wait about 20 mins for the next tray.

What's special about the Soon Kueh here is its simple homely taste, large size and rich filling. I have yet tasted anything close.

Steamed Soon Kueh ($1.20 a piece)

The grandmother could not promise us her operating hours, as on some days she might be too tired to cook. And most time, like our 2 evenings here, only her Soon Kueh (Turnip dumpling) is still available. The rest just got sold out.

Come earlier if you could, then you would probably have the chance to get her Chive dumplings, glutinous rice dumpling or the Yam cake. We would certainly try to.

Swatow Wanton Noodle - since 1970

Wanton Noodle ($3)

No. This post isn't about Wanton noodle. Although the stall has been selling it for decades, it simply came across mediocre. The wow is on their Laksa.

Laksa ($3.50)

You know how, on some day you have a sudden craving for Laksa? A bowl of simple, but good and satisfying Laksa? Come down to the Fengshan Market & Food Centre, (#01-50). I believe you will be gratified by this bowl of curry broth, containing all the essential ingredients of a Laksa - cockles, taupok, fishcakes, beansprouts and prawns!

But the magic is in the broth. Never overly thick, with just the right amount of spiciness you could enjoy. We like this a lot. Now you see why the wanton noodle has been dwarfed.

Fishball Mee Kia ($3)

A newly opened fishball noodle stall (#02-106) in the Taman Jurong Market Food Centre, and it was already attracting some faithful followers, like myself.

Although the main draw of the stall is its handmade fishball, I remained pretty enthralled by their al denta noodles, tossed in flavorsome soy sauce seasoning, minced pork and fresh spring onions. What's irresistible is their crunchy pork lard!

The handmade fishball and fishcake taste fresh, not fishy at all and are lesser floury than normal. Mere thought of biting into one of their fat bouncy fishball is mouth watering. Ugh!

Spicy Chicken, Seasoned Soy Sauce Pork, Seasoned Soy Sauce Chicken

This place is like a Lion den.

Oh, and i'm seeing some of you wagging that tail! At Ssikkek Korean BBQ, you pay just $14++ for their buffet lunch to feed the lion appetite. The package includes a Budae-jjigae (Korean Army Base Stew Pot!), a fountain of free flow soft drinks and oranges for dessert.

And we went straight for the BBQ meat! Jal meokkesseumnida!

Quite an authentic Korean BBQ house that offers Korean dipping sauce, side dishes of Kimchi, Korean rice cake, fried chicken wings, fried vermicelli on its menu. Others include egg sandwiches, sweet sour pork and sautéed vegetable.

I couldn't resist the delicious looking cooked food, and enjoyed wrapping the BBQ meat with Kimchi and crunchy lettuce. Service staffs are friendly and prompt to change the hotplate for us, several times. And very soon, we were bloated.

No doubt, such buffet kept you off meat for the next few days. I was soon reminiscing the aroma of the BBQ meat.

Set B - Toasted Kaya Butter Buns, Kopi, Eggs ($2.20, upsized coffee + $0.10)

To satisfy an Asian soul in the morning, it would be a cup of fragrant Nanyang coffee; toasted bread with thick cold butter and warm, runny half boiled eggs. On a rest day, it's certainly this simple.

Here's a corner stall at the 2nd storey of the Taman Jurong Market Food Centre. They have been serving the neighbors for years - offering quality breakfast set at a fairly economical pricing. I reckon they too help keep prices of coffee around the estate stable.

Come down if you like what you are looking.

Cendol ($2)

With 2 stalls, side by side - Cendol and Ching Teng. Which will you have?

Like many others, we are easily drawn by the thick milky sensation of a syrupy Cendol. Especially after our ultra healthy lunch of fish soup at the Marine Parade Market & Food Centre; we needed something sinful. Four Seasons is right behind the fish soup stall.

A shaved ice dessert, topped with 4 attap seeds (nipa palm), soft red beans and green pandan jello. Then ladled with thick coconut milk and gooey gula melaka! This is a good afternoon...

Traditional Lor Mee ($4)

With a nice plan gone wrong, we landed ourselves in Our Tampines Hub hawker centre for a really late lunch. But looking at the strong crowd here, with queues still forming at some food stalls, we seem just in time to explode the new hawker centre.

Just when we were getting confused with the many exciting food signs, somebody walked pass with a good looking bowl of lor mee. That's it! Turning round the corner, we found the stall (01-45) with a short queue.

Getting our order, i drew in the blissful aroma of freshly fried fish, and slurped in the syrupy sauce of the lor mee. This is such homely taste! The light, no MSG braised broth is delicious. Everything coming together with the dark braised egg, braised meat and fried fish fillets.

This is a good bowl of lor mee in a long time. I'll be back.

(#02-166)

We gonna start visiting the Chinatown Market and Food Centre often, because of the tons of good food here! It is Singapore's largest hawker centre with over 260 food stalls, and stall numbers will be listed here so you could locate them in this maze.

First up will be this famous steamed food stall - it is simple food, but isn't easy to do it right. Expect generous ingredients in their rice dumpling and cuttlefish porridge. Smooth and savory yam cake, and fried noodle with that 'wok hei'! Load on their special chili sauce that is mildly spicy, yet going so well with all the dishes here!

I almost wanted to shout out to the clueless tourists who are looking on at the crowded stall. "Hey Dude! This is the stall to get some local food!"

Roasted Pork Belly, Roasted Char Siew, Roasted Duck Platter ($10.50, include 1 rice)

We were right behind a long queue, but remain undeterred. This is especially after seeing the many quiet roast meat stalls here in the Chinatown Market and Food Centre; you'll appreciate this queue.

It's not hard to understand the sturdy customer support, once you bite into the sweet, savory meat. The crackling roasted skins are irresistible, so are the juicy chewy bite! No other stall give us this unique savory taste that is quite beyond words.

We are so resetting our benchmark for good roasted meat.

Arnold's Fried Chicken

2 Piece Meal ($7.30)

It does take some convincing to do with Singapore's most expensive fried chicken fast food outlet - Arnold's Fried Chicken (One of Singapore's oldest food establishment from the 1980s!). But you may soon find their claim on using farm fresh chicken to be authentic; your taste buds will tell you.

The thin garlicky skin, juicy chicken meat makes it all very memorable for us at Arnold's, our first visit. So tender is Arnold's signature dish, the spring chicken, i was feeling very guilty for yearning after the less than 28 days old chickens.

So much for my repentance, i am actively planning for our next visit on their whole spring chicken. Now, i am condemned.

Mee Goreng, with Egg ($4.50)

With so many stalls offering the Malay fried noodles, you can't go wrong with one who specializes in Goreng (meaning 'fried' in Malay language), and nothing else. They (at stall 59) are the specialist at the East Coast Lagoon Food Village. We are making this return trip specially for them tonight.

Like our last visit, we taste a good plate of fiercely fried noodles, which charred even some of its noodle strands. This is easily one of the best mee goring stalls in Singapore.

12 Sept 2016

We were never virtual gamers. Today we celebrated our levelling up to level 39 playing Pokemon Go. Another 5 million XPs to reap before ascending to the final level, we can finally go easy.

Our journey starts slow on 6 Aug 2016. The memorable photo on top marks our beginning - when we were still amateur and catching mons with low combat power. And when Ric had refused to play =)

(This post is dedicated to Ric, who walks the miles for us, evolving decisively, catching accurately, watching the roads for me and evolving the mons bravely when I dare not look on.)

7 Oct 2016

- Bagged the rare Snorlax and Lickitung minutes apart, while travelling along Bukit Merah View!
- Near missing our first Chansey at Marsiling MRT station, on a morning ride to work.
- Our first Lapras jumping on us along Punggol Rd, towards the waterfront!

21 Nov 2016                                                                        24 Nov 2016

- Farming Charmander candies on Mount Faber.
- Completed our GEN 1 pokedex on 20 Nov 2016 when Aerodactyl was caught at Bukit Panjang. Another one at Hort Park days later.

9 Dec 2016                                                                         13 Dec 2016

- Dashing out every night when Machop starts a small nest in the neighborhood garden. And grow to love this cute small guy. He and Dratini remains our favorite till today.
- When an error occurred during play, we get fun pictures. See a fist clenched Machop on my foot?

6 Jan 2016                                                                           27 Jan 2016

- During a Fire event, caught our first wild Charizard (with AA moveset!) at Jurong West.
- One Sunday morning, Aerodactyl decides to appear in my path.

4 Feb 2017                                                                           24 Feb 2017

- Never dream of meeting Ms Chansey again until she starts spawning more often during the pink Valentine's event in 2017. We ventured into unknown grounds to get many her!
- Finally meeting the naughty, giggling Gengar in the same month too.

25 Mar 2017

- GEN 2 pokemons were released in Feb 2017. We filled up our pokedex fast within 2 days, leaving Unown to be most unpredictable.
- Beat the jam when we spotted the creature unexpectedly in Changi Village. Turned the corner to Leuchars Rd, walked the dark path with an exciting crowd to nab it!
11 May 2017

- Ampharos was last to enter our GEN 2 pokedex.
- She stood at the end of the Woodlands Waterfront, and made me walked on waters to reach her.

27 Jul 2017                                                                          10 Aug 2017

- The new gym system that started in June also encouraged us to begin active gym guards and defense.

- Our tally at level 39.
- 40, we are coming.

Satay Babat

Probably our most bizarre yet toothsome satay skew - Haron's satay babat (cow's stomach/ tripe)! Trust Ric to order it, when they were sold out on the mutton satay.

We were unsure, of course. But the babat actually tastes awesome for being soft, little chewy and pretty meaty at the same time. It is splendid barbecue skills when the skewered meat actually picked up most of the smoky aroma, without getting charred!

Do you even get this in restaurants? Just come down to the East Coast Lagoon Food Village.

Come dinner time, there are always 2 long queues in the Telok Blangah Crescent Market and Food Centre. One belongs to the char kway teow, and the other at Fei Lou here.

Their bountiful items on the yellow board might make you feel lost. Well, you just have to get what the guys in front are ordering!

Boneless Fried Chicken Wings ($1.20 each), Porridge ($1), Fried Bee Hoon ($1)

Steamed Chicken ($6)

Primarily it's the boneless fried chicken wings! and steamed chicken that makes it to everyone's table. They have this classic 'fried shallot oil with spring onions' dip sauce for their steamed chicken, which I find to be most nostalgia.

The scalding hot porridge and savory vermicelli are the carbo to indulge. Occasionally, we will have their herbaceous braised chicken feet with peanuts! Get you a photo of it soon.

BURGS!

Do we even need an introduction to the hottest burger joint in Singapore now! Yes, this is Burgs at the Golden Mile Food Centre.

The Classic beef burger totally stole our hearts! and palate. It was thick, juicy and full of flavors! This is one of those rare instances which i don't want to share my food with Ric. Haha. The Seoul fried chicken was most beautifully deep fried and marinated, but i rebuff sweet mains. And the coleslaw was so little in this one.

The Classic for repeats. And we are definitely coming back for their Teriyaki Chicken burger ($5.50) which got sold out during our queuing!

The Classic - Beef Patty, Caramelized Onions, American Cheese, Pickled Green Chilli ($4.50).

Seoul Fried Chicken - Korean style fried Chicken, Homemade Coleslaw ($5).

Big Prawn Noodle (Standard, $12)

This is Ah Hui Big Prawn Noodle from the old Long House food centre at Thomson. Despite our many visits to the Long House, it was always for the famous boneless braised duck rice. And it's not hard to understand why, after our taste of the prawn noodle today.

For the higher prices charged here, we expected more. Their standard prawn noodles at $5-7 does not offer sweet prawns. The big prawns are tastier, but not exceptional. The gentle broth left us wanting, since we have expected a much robust sip.

The best thing? The prawns are fresh and properly de-veined, making it easy to eat. The fresh fried shallots and pork lard bits are good effort.

Sauced Fish Head ($13)

Chinatown Market and Food Centre is the place to go for cheap Song fish heads. As much as i'm looking forward to the famous fermented black bean sauce fish heads of An Ji (#02-194), Ric misread the menu, so we ended up with the sweeter 'sauced fish head' instead of the briny 'black bean sauce fish head'.

I was disappointed. But the presentation was impressive - the fish seared with crispy pork lard in orangey sauce. It was pretty. And the fish head was absolutely fresh, the generous gelatin was most pristine. I ate until it was too much even for me, a fish lover.

The bitter gourd dish showcases the prowess of good Cantonese cooking. It was smoky, savory and rustic. The ribs were falling off the bones. We are returning for more.
